Then she wrote her second full-length novel, which also took a few or more years. It was the mid-late eighties. Then she wrote her third novel, mid-late nineties. Then her fourth, 2000-2009. The fifth, 2010-2020. The last book in this series is “THREADS—Memoirs of a Weaving Woman,” which will be available early 2025.
Sixty years of history–The Boomer Years—beautifully expressed and embellished with the lofty memorabilia of each decade. Studio 54 gets a nod in the 70s; Windows on the World got a nod in the nineties.
Fiction allows a writer much license and leeway, but it’s language that exposes or hears the intention behind the veil. Narrative allows the reader to read and to hear the very thoughts, to know the writer by the words chosen and the expected outcome, which in adult fiction is usually borne of desire. Words are sexy. A confidence man can twist a wire coat hanger into a pretzel with a single syllable, whispering something.
She has received awards for excellence in literary books and published in various reviews and magazines.
Ms. Smith resides happily in Texas with her happy husband, black lab, and a cat named Red.
B. K. Smith's fictionalized narratives are stories shared by strong and beautiful contemporary women who are complex, flawed and very determined. Very enjoyable and captivating, they document the social issues of the last half century in the voices, cadence and grammar, that stereotype the character. The stories in the Lipstick Mountains Memoirs are rich and blissfully decadent, but also have content and substance. Modern women will identify with the world of powerful men and challenging the circumstances where women must balance sexuality and purity, faith and reason; to manage their femininity and vulnerability; and to emerge ultimately as intelligent, thoughtful, and capable, occasionally wicked.
